Right to Education (RTE) Act 2009
The State Commission for Protection of Child Rights has been mandated under Section 31 of the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act 2009,for the following functions:
I. To examine and review the safeguards of the rights provided under the act and to recommend measures for its effective implementation. II. To inquire into complaints relating to violation of child's right to free and compulsory education and to take necessary steps as provided under Section 24 of the Commission for Protection of Child Rights, 2005.
As per the powers of the Commission under the RTE and Commissions for Protection of Child Rights Act 2005, Haryana State Commission for protection of Child Rights has taken several initiatives and action to meet the mandate of Commission under RTE Act. Several activities have been undertaken in this regard:
1. Orientation of Trainers on NCPCR guidelines on eliminating corporal punishment in schools 2. State Level Trainings of School Heads regarding Safety and Rights of Students 3. Implementation of SurakhsitVahan policy in Haryana and conducting inspections of school buses 4. Issuing of Guidelines and state advisory on implementation of Sec 134 A in Haryana schools 5. Inquiring into incidents of corporal punishment, fees over charge, striking of name of schools and other complaints of child rights violations.
